How an identification record is made

From the moment an institution submits a record to the moment it appears in the public directory, every record passes through four stages.

01
Documentation
The institution enters details about the object and uploads photographs and digital documentation. Intangible heritage records must also carry the consent of the community that holds the tradition.
02
Appraisal
The responsible officer reviews the content and confirms the authority of the party giving consent. Incomplete records are returned to the institution to be completed.
03
Identifier issued
A record that meets the requirements receives its own identifier, shared with no other record, together with a certificate digitally signed under Decree 130/2018.
04
Publication and interoperability
The record enters the public directory. Its data can be exported in four international metadata standards for exchange with museums and libraries, and is ready to connect to the National Digital Culture Data Repository.

Legal scope of an identification record

An identification record only confirms that data about the object has been compiled and stored on DIP. It is NOT an instrument establishing rights, does NOT create any exclusivity over the heritage, and does NOT replace inventory, inscription or ranking procedures under cultural heritage law.
